CLC Licensing Renews Agreements with Six Partner Institutions

July 11, 2014

CLC Licensing, the licensing affiliate of IMG College, announced today that it has renewed exclusive trademark licensing agreements with six partner institutions - Boston University, East Carolina University (ECU), Grambling State University, University of Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt University, and University of Virginia.

With the renewals, all six partners will have continued access to CLC Licensing’s leading brand protection, brand management, and brand development services through comprehensive trademark licensing programs customized by CLC Licensing. In addition, each will benefit from CLC Licensing’s proven licensing services from the industry’s largest and deepest staff of experienced professionals, which allow schools to contract with best-in-class licensees advancing their goals and marketplace position.

This news is highlighted by ECU’s 10-year renewal of a partnership which began in 1984 and will run through June 30, 2023. The ECU licensing program with Collegiate Licensing Company has experienced tremendous growth, increasing its royalty revenues 25 of the last 29 years. ECU’s licensing program has grown more than 120% since 2007. Much of that growth can be attributed to Collegiate Licensing Company and ECU working in tandem to grow the business in key North Carolina markets, advance ECU’s Retail Champions Program, and secure the University’s participation in collegiate licensing programs by Hurley, Peter Millar, and TOMS.

“CLC’s expertise and relationships within the collegiate licensing industry have been instrumental in the growth of the ECU licensing program,” said Lee Workman, ECU’s Associate Athletics Director for Administration. “We value our partnership with CLC and look forward to it continuing well into the future.”

Other highlights of these renewals include:

* Vanderbilt’s licensing program has produced double-digit percentage growth each of the past six years. Since partnering with CLC Licensing in 2007, Vanderbilt’s program has seen its annual royalty revenues increase by 108%.

* Royalty revenues generated by the Pitt licensing program have grown by 68% over the last ten years. That growth that has been supported by solid CLC Licensing-managed programs with PINK, Dockers, and Zazzle.

* Boston University’s annual royalty revenues have reached an all-time record high each of the last two years, bolstered by expanded distribution in key retailers like Finish Line, Lids, Nordstrom, and Vineyard Vines.

* Virginia, a CLC Licensing partner since 1982, has expanded brand awareness and increased royalty revenues three of the last five years with help from successful programs with Brooks Brothers, Dockers, and Yankee Candle.

“CLC Licensing appreciates the opportunity to grow the licensing business of each of these universities,” said Cory Moss, Senior VP and Managing Director of CLC. “Our staff – the largest and deepest in the industry – remains dedicated to delivering personal service, innovation, and creative opportunities for these partners by being at the forefront of every major opportunity in the collegiate market.”
